Time Stops

Black ice, black rubber
Skids across
Rolling thrice.

Broken glass, shattered bones, concussions, blood—
Emergency siren tones
And you WALKED to the ambulance.

Chaos, clarity
Helping hands, instantly on the scene.

God was watching over you,
Kept you alive amid injury.

A million phone calls
Minutes stretch into hours
Waiting for an answer.

Time seems to stop altogether
Waiting for the world to turn
Back over—
Right-side-up again.

Listening in when she's on the phone
All I want is for you
To come home.
Please come home.
