Episode 4: No escape

Note from the creator: Well, hello there! It’s been…a long time, I know. Five months? Six? I don’t even know, but I promise I did not intend to leave you all hanging for half a year. I finally forced myself to sit down and finish these final pages for you guys. There aren’t many, I know, but I’m hoping I can get back into the groove of working on this project now that I’ve picked it up again.

As I’ve mentioned before, this comic HAS undergone a style change and yes, it is on purpose. When Adam is shown being small, it represents the childlike fear we all experience sometimes. As you’ll notice throughout the panels, he always looks older and more mature when he chooses to face his fears.

Style changes aside, I hope you enjoy these final pages of Part 1! We will be moving on to Part 2 in the coming months—don’t give up on me!

A note from the creator

As some of you may have noticed, the style in Poncho has changed a bit.

This is more of an organic change than a purposeful one. What I mean by that, is that since I’d been working in larger proportions, my comic also took on those attributes. I think it’s safe to say from here on out that I will be using this larger style, as opposed to the small one, but I might switch back. Every panel is an experiment for me, and I like to play around with design styles. Of course, that can be a problem since you probably are expecting consistency.

Initially, when I made the first episode of Poncho, I was still getting used to his design and was afraid to go bigger. I also did not originally plan to continue with the Merchant; rather, I planned to do short strips where it was a random event each time. But introducing the Merchant led to a bit of world building, and it set the Poncho story in motion.

As Episode 3 was being worked on, I became more comfortable and was willing to take some risk. I figured that since we’d be having a fight scene, a lot of panels would be closer up; hence allowing for more detail. The first two episodes are viewed from farther away, which is why everyone looks a little smaller.

Another good way to think of it is this: in the first two episodes, Poncho is terrified. He is depicted as more childlike because of this, because it is a childlike terror. When he finally gets the guts to defend himself, it shows his maturity. The design change is representative of those things.

I’m sorry for any confusion this may have caused, and I hope you all understand why I did what I did. As always, thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day :)

Episode 2: Intimidation

A/N: poor Poncho! What will he do? What will become of him? What would you do if a blobby pink cyclops took hold of you?

Episode 1: Strange Merchant

A note from the creator: Adam “Poncho” has long canines because he needs them to eat lizards. He is not evil, and he is not a vampire. Please do not jump to such conclusions––it hurts his little feelings. He has simply been adapted to survive his harsh environment. Thank you and have a lovely day!
