A note from the creator

As some of you may have noticed, the style in Poncho has changed a bit.

This is more of an organic change than a purposeful one. What I mean by that, is that since I’d been working in larger proportions, my comic also took on those attributes. I think it’s safe to say from here on out that I will be using this larger style, as opposed to the small one, but I might switch back. Every panel is an experiment for me, and I like to play around with design styles. Of course, that can be a problem since you probably are expecting consistency.

Initially, when I made the first episode of Poncho, I was still getting used to his design and was afraid to go bigger. I also did not originally plan to continue with the Merchant; rather, I planned to do short strips where it was a random event each time. But introducing the Merchant led to a bit of world building, and it set the Poncho story in motion.

As Episode 3 was being worked on, I became more comfortable and was willing to take some risk. I figured that since we’d be having a fight scene, a lot of panels would be closer up; hence allowing for more detail. The first two episodes are viewed from farther away, which is why everyone looks a little smaller.

Another good way to think of it is this: in the first two episodes, Poncho is terrified. He is depicted as more childlike because of this, because it is a childlike terror. When he finally gets the guts to defend himself, it shows his maturity. The design change is representative of those things.

I’m sorry for any confusion this may have caused, and I hope you all understand why I did what I did. As always, thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day :)
