Day 2: Spiders
Well. One spider. A spider named Fidelis.
Why Fidelis? Well, the prompt reminded me of the story of Saint Felix of Nola.
Felix was a pope in hiding, because at the time it was considered a crime to be a Christian in Rome. Roman police were after him, and needing a place to hide, he came upon a cracked wall with a hole in it. He squeezed in there, despite knowing that he could still be seen.
Then he prayed, “dear Lord, if you want me to stay in this world to lead your Christians, please get me out of this mess! What am I to do?” And at that moment a small white spider ran across the stone wall, stopped at the hole, and began to spin a web over it until the hole was completely woven from view.
When the Roman police passed by, they figured the web had been there a long time and thought nothing more of it. They moved on, and Felix was safe! He named the spider Fidelis, “the faithful one”, because of its loyal devotion.
Pretty neat, huh? :)
